Obituary for William (Will) H. Moore, III

March 9, 1962 – April 18, 2017
Born March 9, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, William H. Moore, III (Will) left this world on April 18, 2017.  While survived most immediately by his parents, Roberta Lord (Bobbie) and William H. Moore, Jr., daughters Chelsea Moore Stutzman and Kevy Moore Argall, and brother, Geoffrey L. Moore, he is also survived by the thousands that enjoyed his brilliant mind, biting wit and warm soul.
Graduating with a Phd from the University of Colorado – Boulder, Will engaged in a prolific career, beginning  at the University of California – Riverside, then moving to Florida State University and finally to Arizona State University.  Known for several things (e.g., stand up comedy, Burning Man [participation and promotion], roller blading and legendary conversation), professionally Will was a political scientist.  Here, he helped create and popularize the rigorous study of internal conflict (i.e., that which takes place within nations), exploring the dynamic interaction between governments and their opponents.  Toward this end, he created new theory, new data and new methods to facilitate insight into why civil wars, repression and dissent occurs (his conflict side) as well as why they stop (his peace side).
Equally as memorable/important, Will is/will be forever loved for his mentoring, sponsorship and seeing/hearing those around him as a teacher, colleague and friend (distinctions frequently combined).  These transformative/probing “exchanges” would take place seemingly anywhere, anytime informally or formally within his conflict consortium – to the delight of all.
The recipient of numerous awards, none was as important as his Presidency of his beloved Peace Science Society or his teaching awards.  Will loved to live out loud but generally within small groups/spaces, so spend some time with whmoore.net for more of this exceptional being.
Services – none scheduled at this time.
Contribution:  In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to kriscamp.org, in memory of his son, Kris Moore (5/30/1988-11/9/1993).  Kris’ Camp is a therapy intensive program for autistic children
